Church Turnstile

The turnstile at the front gate outside Wicklewood parish church often causes comment.
The original turnstile (it has been replaced several times) is thought to have been associated with the village's first National School which was built just inside the church wall in the 19th century and was finally demolished in 1895.
The new board school for Wicklewood, Crownthorpe, Hackford and (much later) Kimberley, was built on village clay-lands 300 yards from the church in 1878 and is still, of course, in use
