Dominic Belisario takes a card pack from Receptionist Una before feeding the cards into the top hopper. The optical read station is on the RHS and output is to the lower hopper. A pack of this size was read through in just a few seconds - an impressive speed (and noise). Jobs were saved on disc and an entry placed in the Job Well for the HLS to discover at timed intervals ( or when the Operators gave it a "kick" ). Note the wall display to aid performance ! This was the upstairs machine room which is currently (2001) the teaching Lab. and was originally a seminar room.
